Dedicated: January 18, 1863
Our Church is a restored historic site. The prayer of this community is that you will experience with us the joy, peace and love of our Lord as we celebrate the Eucharist together. We wish you safe and enjoyable travels!
St. Joseph's is the oldest, continually used Catholic Church in the Diocese of Fresno. Built during the harsh, wet winter of 1862 under the Pastor, Rev. Louis A. Auger, 1860-65 and Consecrated by Archbishop Joseph Sadoc Alemany of San Francisco on January 18, 1863.
Saving the spiritual needs of the community from the Presidency of Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War until the present, this simple yet noble example of Carpenter Gothic Architecture originally seated only 80 persons. In 1958, the Church was stretched 18 feet to the east and a fourth window added, increasing the seating capacity to 120 persons.
Many repairs and interior modifications have been made over the years. The last major renovations took place in the year 2000 in celebration of the second Millenium, A.D. The Church was placed on the National Registry of Historical Places in 1991.
